CARMICHAEL: ORP PREVIEW

CARMICHAEL AT ORP: Ricky Carmichael made one start at ORP in 2009 where he began the race in 18th-place and finished one position lower in the 19th-position.

CARMICHAEL ON TRUCKS: Carmichael’s last on-track appearance came at Gateway where he was on his way to his fourth top-10 of the season when his day ended early after being turned into the wall by a fellow competitor.  He finished the race in the 29th-position and lost one spot in the points standings.  So far this season, Carmichael has scored one top-five (Dover) and three top-10 finishes (Atlanta, Martinsville and Iowa) in the first 11 races of the 2010 season.

CARMICHAEL ON COMPETING AT ORP:  “I really like ORP.  I like the flatter tracks and ORP is very flat and short.  It’s multi-groove so you can get around someone pretty easy.  Last year we were really close to the top five and I don’t see why we can’t get back there this year.  After last week, I’m really looking forward to re-grouping and just getting back on those top-10 runs and maximize the points.”

BEHIND THE WHEEL: Crew chief Mike Fritts has chosen Turner Motorsports chassis No.8 for Carmichael to pilot at ORP. This Monster Energy Chevrolet has been on track at Martinsville, Michigan and Iowa.

CREW CHIEF’S KEYS TO SUCCESS:  “The biggest thing for us is that Ricky has raced at ORP before, so he knows what to expect. The truck has to really turn good and, if you want to pass people, it has to be done on the bottom.  We’re going to work on running good on the bottom in practice so he’ll be able to advance his position during the race.”

BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW: Carmichael traveled to Canada this week on behalf of sponsors Fox Racing and Monster Energy for Canadian Motocross at Gopher Dunes in Ontario.  While there, he signed autographs at the race and worked with several Canadian television outlets.  On Monday, the 15-time AMA Champion was on the track working with riders to provide pointers and instruction at “Ricky Carmichael Ride Day.”

MEET THE DRIVER:  NASCAR fans will have two chances to meet Ricky Carmichael in Indianapolis this weekend.  He’ll be at the Kroger Fan Festival on Thursday from 4:50 – 5:30 pm and at Camping World at 303 Sheek Road in Greenwood, IN beginning at 6:30 pm.
